    Description

Offered for sale is this most interesting Mexican artifact. It was created by the studio of Alfonso Jurado and is crafted from 3,000 individual pieces of wood.  The pieces are glued into place to form the design of the Aztec Sun calendar.  Eight different species of wood are used and are listed on the back side. The dark shades highlight the sun and major Aztec symbols and the lighter shades fill in the background of the design.  The calendar is 12-1/4" in diameter. It has a height of 1-1/4"and uses alternating pieces of dark and light wood to complete the circle.  The calendar is clean and in good condition.  There is a scratch to the wood at the 4 o'clock position.  Please see photo #7.  The story of the calendar and specific information are given by the artist on the back of the piece.  It was produced in San Cavatano which is on the western side of Mexico.
This calendar is a most impressive piece of art and would look great in a family room or library.
