    Glow Stones®
    Hold a piece of light in your hand! Glow Stones® are a toy and a science experiment all in one! These colorful stones are phosphorescent, meaning they glow in the dark after being exposed to light. Glow Stones® come in a variety of assorted colors and make fascinating room décor. You’ll love playing with this scientific marvel again and again!
    Glow Stones® will glow in the dark for hours after being exposed to light for just 15 minutes, as a result of phosphorescence. Phosphorescence is a process that occurs when certain materials absorb energy from the sun or some other light source and then release that energy slowly in the form of light.
    Common pigments that are phosphorescent are zinc sulfide and strontium aluminate. These pigments absorb light, also known as photons. Absorbed photons cause electrons in Glow Stones® to become excited and raised to a higher energy level, emitting light as a result. As the photons are released, the electrons slow back down to a stable energy level, and Glow Stones® then stop glowing. After once again being exposed to light, they will phosphoresce in the dark all over again. Glow Stones® function as a kind of battery that stores light!
    Instructions: Expose Glow Stones® to direct sunlight or a bright light for 15 minutes. Then put them into a totally dark space and be amazed to see the Glow Stones® phosphorescing, or glowing in the dark. Glow Stones® are non-toxic, non-radioactive and harmless. There are no harmful effects should a Glow Stone® be put in a person’s mouth or accidentally swallowed.
    Boone’s Mill Trading’s Glow Stones® have been tested and certified by an independent laboratory and pass regulations by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) and California’s Prop 65.
